About Us

Bella Roma Foods

Bella Roma Foods is a small family owned and operated food retailer and caterer that emerged on to the Guelph food scene in June 2010. Bella Roma Foods is the brain child of Elisa Baggio, whose father, Tranquillo Baggio, owned and operated Roma Salami, a successful meat manufacturing business for over 50 years in Guelph. Following Tranquillo’s passing in 2004, Roma Salami was dismantled and after an absence of six long years from the food industry, the Baggio family tradition of food entrepreneurship was continued by Elisa.

Bella Roma Foods is dedicated to carrying on Tranquillo’s passion and love for food, and his commitment to creating quality products. Using many of the same recipes Tranquillo developed at Roma Salami, Elisa has created a business that offers an eclectic mix of old and new world products that suit every type of palate.

Recently, close family friend and former employee, Katherine Sowden, took over operations at Bella Roma Foods. With a passion for food and over 10 years’ experience in the industry, 5 of which were working for the Baggio family, Katherine plans to carry on the Baggio family’s tradition of food entrepreneurship.

Profiling Katherine Sowden, Owner & Chef

Katherine completed an Honours BBA at Wilfrid Laurier University in 2011 and received her culinary training at George Brown College in Toronto. Katherine has worked in a test kitchen developing recipes for many industry partners including several nutritionally driven projects for youth. Katherine’s passion and love for food made her the perfect person to carry on Tranquillo and Elisa Baggio’s legacy in the food industry.
